Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are some things you can check yourself before calling A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can get clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 301-747-3140 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
