Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call A-PLUS Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can get clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but verify the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating system will still not start up, give A-PLUS Service Experts a call at 301-747-3140 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
