What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

A-PLUS Service Experts in Waldorf always talks about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to A-PLUS Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these criteria, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since A-PLUS Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas relevant to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating

  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
