Spring may have sprung but in Waldorf it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been working for months attempting to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some love. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a severe gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning as soon as possible.
Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.
- Check that your thermostat is switched to “heat.”
It may sound ridiculous, but we are always running and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to overlook the simple fixes. Not remembering to change over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!
- Check your furnace switch.
On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you might look at regularly. Most units have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.
- Swap your furnace air filter.
You should change your home’s air filters at least every three months to help your system run more efficiently and postpone any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your loved ones healthy.
- Check the circuit breaker.
Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.
Furnace repairs get to be pricey, so avoid a potential issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
