Common Waldorf AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed several of the most common air conditioning problems Waldorf faces, but today we are here to tell you about some typical air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not releasing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not really cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air coming out of your A/C is truly cool and keeps you comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.

An easy way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or giving off condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are likely good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.

If you’re not positive or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll pay you a visit and check your refrigerant levels and find out why your A/C system is not blowing cool air. Keep in mind, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are several reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One might be that it merely burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is blocked. If you can check for these things, you may be able to discover the problem; but, if not, give A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can find out what is preventing your condenser fan from rotating and review your options to get your A/C system problem corrected.

Your air conditioning system is not providing sufficient air cooling.

The first step is to try dropping the temperature on your thermostat. It seems absurd but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause major cooling issues. Another problem that could cause your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are constructed. A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and conduct an analysis to verify if the size of your air conditioner is causing your problems.

AC shuts on and off repeatedly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of several things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the equipment is cleaned and all obstructions moved out of the way, you may be back to a typical running AC. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your trouble, whatever common or uncommon air conditioning problem you run into, A-PLUS Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you all day, everyday. We are available anytime so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your home comfortable lickety-split.
