History
A-PLUS started in 1976 with just three people and two trucks. What we lacked in numbers, we more than made up in experience. Operating out of a house made it difficult to do business, with tractor trailers pulling up in our residential neighborhood to deliver HVAC equipment! We remember our first hot, dry summer that started the seasonal business with a bang. Moving to our Southern Maryland A-PLUS shop came soon after, and we eventually added a shop in Springfield, Virginia to handle the extra traffic as we grew.
That growth was helped by serving the Maryland and Virginia suburbs from the very beginning. With over 700 companies in our service area, competition has been high. Steady growth with honest, quality work and service agreements keeps us at the top of our field.
Service Area
Draw a big circle around the outer loop of the beltway, and that pretty much is our service area. This includes Montgomery, Prince George's and Charles counties in Maryland, as well as Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William and Loudoun counties in Virginia. Every one of our drivers has a complete set of county maps, so there is no need to give us directions (except in extreme rural farm areas, where they have been given telephone pole numbers).
Offices
Our main office is in Charles County, Maryland. Jay Stine is the service/sales manager. He has a tough, stressful job coordinating and keeping everything flowing well, but he does an outstanding job. Our other shop is located in Springfield, Virginia. Both offices are open six days a week and only closed a few holidays. They also have extended hours during peak seasons, especially during summer months.
Employees
All of our technicians are well-trained. Some have completed an HVAC trade school program. Employees carry the CFC (freon) certification required by the Federal EPA, and have supplied uniforms and identification cards for your safety. A-PLUS always demands courteousness and respect, and our employees always deliver.
Trucks
A-PLUS vehicles have changed over the years. The first one was a used post office truck with steering wheel on the right side. The next vehicles were turquoise or green and white, and then evolved into white trucks with the three-color A-PLUS logo. Today, we have the best visible color combination: bright red with a yellow stripe and the A-PLUS logo. Many people comment about seeing the trucks going down the roads and highways.
Radio Dispatch
Communication between the shop(s) and employees has always been state of the art. Today, Nextel radios help keep a tight control over communications in order to dispatch technicians in an efficient manner.
Licensing
Because we have such a large service area, we have many regional licenses to obtain for each county and state. A-PLUS is fully insured and bonded.
